Event Marketing & Social Media
- Develop and execute a marketing plan for each Houston Business Journal event in partnership with the Event Director.
- Create engaging, creative and timely social media content promoting events, nominations, honorees, speakers, sponsors and other event-related initiatives.
- Maintain a consistent social media calendar for events, with content planned and scheduled in advance for review.
- Create approximately 1–2 creative event-related social media posts per platform each business day, based on the active event calendar and marketing needs.
- Identify opportunities for new social content, including behind-the-scenes content, honoree and speaker spotlights, countdowns, event-day content and post-event recaps.
- Assist with capturing and posting social content onsite at events.
- Coordinate event email marketing, print advertising, website promotion and other marketing efforts.
- Submit and manage internal requests for event-related email, digital and print creative.
- Ensure event branding and messaging are accurate and consistent across all platforms.
- Identify and help build relationships with community and promotional partners to expand event awareness and reach.
Event Registration & Digital Platforms
- Create, maintain and update online event registration pages.
- Ensure event pages accurately reflect current sponsors, speakers, honorees, schedules and event information.
- Make updates throughout the event cycle as information changes.
- Assist attendees with registration questions and provide excellent customer service.
- Help manage nomination-related customer service and inquiries for awards programs.
Honoree, Speaker & Sponsor Coordination
- Serve as a primary point of communication for event honorees throughout the awards process.
- Support sponsor communication, registration and fulfillment of event-related benefits.
- Maintain accurate sponsor, speaker, honoree and event trackers.
- Coordinate with community partners regarding tickets, promotional commitments and event deliverables.
- Work closely with the editorial team to collect honoree information and materials needed for special publications and event coverage.
Event Planning & Execution
- Work closely with the Event Director to brainstorm themes, experiences, décor and creative elements for Houston Business Journal events.
- Assist with event preparation, including name badges, table signs, programs, awards, signage, sponsor materials, photo backdrops and other event collateral.
- Manage event registration and check-in onsite.
- Assist with event load-in, setup, execution and load-out.
- Help ensure sponsor displays, signage and other onsite benefits are executed correctly.
- Provide professional, welcoming customer service to attendees, honorees, speakers, sponsors and partners.
- Be prepared to assist wherever needed during live events in a fast-paced environment.
Event Administration & Organization
- Maintain shared event calendars, timelines, trackers, communications and planning documents.
- Submit design and marketing requests early in the planning process and manage them through completion.
- Proof event materials for accuracy before final production.
- Coordinate administrative event needs, including printing name badges and table signs, ordering awards and creating event programs.
- Organize event photography and distribute photos to appropriate internal and external contacts.
- Work with the sales team following events to assist with sponsor recaps and fulfillment reporting.
- Maintain organized event files and historical information for future planning.

- Willing and able to work occasional early mornings, evenings and other hours required for events.
- Excited to learn all aspects of event production and grow within the events function.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, hospitality, event management, public relations or a related field preferred.
- 1–3 years of experience in events, marketing, social media, hospitality or a related field preferred.
- Experience creating and scheduling social media content.
- Strong written communication and proofreading skills.
- Experience with Canva, social media scheduling platforms, email marketing tools or event registration systems is a plus.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Experience working with sponsors, clients or external partners is a plus.
